Adidas +Teamgeist (Germany 2006) Origin of the name: In German it refers to team spirit and a plus sign was added to avoid legal problems with the name. Design: The ball consists of 14 thermally bonded panels, hand stitching has been left behind. Innovation: This ball marked the end of the classic 32-panel design of official match balls, with each ball now featuring its own configuration of thermally bonded panels, now the balls were 100% waterproof. Legacy: From now on, all official World Cup balls featured vinyl graphics of the two opposing teams, the time and date of the match, the name of the stadium, the city, etc. Fun fact: The +Teamgeist name is still used on Adidas equipment to this day and a 1:1 remake of this ball was released in March 2025 and this limited edition item sold out in just a few hours around the world.
